Rainwater could be collected through a water tank set up in your backyard. Setting up water tanks on your property will help reduce your water monthly bill. Households that don't have an access to main water lines are advised to set up their own water tanks. This could help every household in their water needs.

You need to evaluate how much water would your family need before establishing your water tank. It is very easy to set up a water tank to your garden. The simple system involves collecting rainwater from your roof and storing it in a tank for later use. The size of the tank is based on a number of factors, including the size of your garden and how much annual rainfall you get.

It is best if you visit your local council first and ask for requirements before connecting your water tank to your household plumbing. There are places wherein property permits or annual inspections are essential if you want to connect your water tank to your household plumbing.

Rainwater can be quite unsafe if you use it directly. A lot of bacteria may live in rainwater. There are ways to assure the safety of water tanks, though. Covering your water tank adequately is just one of the thousand methods to ensure that the rainwater stored in your water tank is clean and free from contaminants.

Using a filter flush diverter can help you ensure that your water tank contains rainwater which is free from contaminants. Apart from this, you may also use a simple screen to ensure the cleanliness of your water tank. Just place a screen over your tank's inlet pipe. Its purpose is quite similar to that of a first flush diverter. These devices allow you to obtain a pure and clean rainwater which you may use for bathing or drinking.

Before installing a rainwater tank, however, bear in mind that the water collected in your water tanks will be coming from your roof, so you need to make sure it is suitable. If you roof has lead, chromium or cadmium, you should not install water tanks to your home.

For back garden water tanks, you can use any type of huge, watertight canisters. Virtually all water tanks are produced out of plastic-type material, concrete, fiberglass and galvanized material. Set up your rainwater container near your own house so that the down pipe from your roof enters directly into the tank. Place a strong screen in the opening of your pipe to prevent contaminants from entering. If you wish the water to be used in your garden, fit a tap or perhaps a soak hose to the container. Include a warning sign so that young boys and girls do not drink the rainwater from your tank. You might also want to build the tap high out of the reach of youngsters.

Make sure that you are after the government's laws upon building your rainwater system by talking to your local council.
