Homeowners have various reasons why they want to make renovations. Some do it to increase the aesthetic or add more space. Others just want the simple pleasure of having a room with a fresh new look. While a renovation often conjures thoughts of forking out a lot of money, these do not need be too expensive. If you're interior redecorating budget is modest, the following are some of the things you can try.

For one, you can make use of lighting to add visual interest to your room. Lamps and light fixtures are not very pricey and it doesn't typically take more than a day to mount them especially if you're only doing one room. Accent lights will highlight decorative pieces, like artworks, or draw the eye to interesting wall treatments or architectural features. It can also influence the mood of those staying in the space where they are installed. For instance, bright lights tend to be stimulating while warm light is more relaxing. Apart from setting the mood of the space, it can also make it more functional. Task lighting for instance will enable you to make the most use of spaces that are not used often by turning them into study, reading, or work areas.

Updating a room need not be expensive, and one cost-effective way to do that is to replace your window treatments. Throwing on black and white curtains for example will add elegance to your space. Because they are neutral, black and white curtains will blend easily with existing decorations in the room.

Change throw pillow covers to update your living room or have an old sofa reupholstered so it looks brand new. In most instances, these would be less costly than having to buy a new couch. If you really want to change your sofa, but don't want to spend too much consider getting used ones sold in thrift stores. Some sanding and a fresh coat of paint will make that old furniture look more valuable than how much you bought it for.

Remember though that when buying items needed for your renovation project, don't always go for the cheapest ones. Evaluate for quality and durability. They may be cheap to buy at the outset, but if you need to replace them often and sooner than you expect, this will only offset any savings you've made previously. Bring down labor expenses as well by investing some sweat equity in these projects. Involve the rest of your family so that the renovation can be completed faster. Just remember though to leave electrical works to the professionals for your safety.
